This main stage conversation, led by longtime anti-sewage sludge activists, will focus on the discovery that farmland across the US has been polluted by toxic PFAS chemicals (also known as “forever chemicals”). After years of hard work keeping sewage sludge legally out of Organic production, this pernicious pollutant has found its way into Organic food anyway often from applications of sludge many decades ago. The panel also includes farmers whose land and food have unknowingly been contaminated and how they have fought back. The stories shared reveal truly criminal acts at the hands of our government and its corporate handlers, sometimes referred to as the “sludge mafia”.
