Chestnut charlie's organic tree crops is a pioneering orchard growing hybrid and chinese chestnuts organically in lawrence, kansas since 1995. Charlie has been observing, making records, and selecting from thousands of seedling trees and dozens of grafted varieties to preserve the best chestnut genotypes for our region and for our customers' tastes. In addition, we have interplanted superior pecan and walnut cultivars and are also testing organic berries and fruits, including native pawpaws, as understory crops. Our produce is gathered by hand by local friends and enthusiasts in season and is sold in local and regional natural-foods groceries and by mail-order to 47 states (excluding california, oregon, and washington, which have chestnut quarantines). Growing healthy food from trees and woody perennials organically and sustainably has been charlie's bedrock commitment.
