Alexa Schieferecke

Certification Manager

Alexa brings a lifetime love of environmental sustainability and years of agricultural certification, inspection and program management experience to the Real Organic Project. She holds a Masters in Environmental Management, specializing in Integrated and Sustainable Land Management, from Western Colorado University, and a B.S. in Animal (Equine) Science from Colorado State University. In 2017, Alexa worked with Colorado ranchers and the Coldharbour Institute to co-found the Colorado Regenerative Network, the Colorado Hub for the Savory Institute, and created programming to expand regenerative agricultural practices throughout Colorado. In 2018, Alexa moved to California and began inspecting farms all over the state in her role as the Agricultural Production Inspector for Pacific Coast Farmers Market Association. Alexa experienced the diversity and breadth of the California agricultural industry and quickly became a subject matter expert regarding different types of California farming operations, from organic vegetable farms to almond orchards, olive groves, citrus groves, and more. From there, Alexa served as an Agricultural Inspector for the Solano County and then Marin County Departments of Agriculture, where she became proficient in the USDA-NOP organic standards, first through inspection contracts with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and then through promotion to the Organic Program Manager position with Marin Organic Certified Agriculture (MOCA), Marin County’s organic certification program. Alexa brings to ROP her extensive experience with all facets of organic certification, including inspections, certification reviews, material and organic input reviews, policy and program development, investigations, enforcement, and accreditation management.

When she’s not at work, Alexa enjoys hiking with her friends and family, visiting National Parks, and alpine skiing all over the mountain west.
