John Kenny

John Kenny is a farmer from Chepachet, Rhode Island and has owned and managed Big Train Farm, a diversified, certified real organic farm since 2008. Big Train Farm produces certified real organic vegetables and fruit as well as non-certified eggs. John has been involved in the local agricultural movement since graduating high school in 2000 and received a degree from the University of Rhode Island in 2010 in biological sciences and chemistry. In addition to running Big Train Farm John has been an active educator over the past two decades. He has taught a regionally popular and in-depth soil and plant science course for many years and he hosts workshops on his farm annually.

John is the director of a fledgling apprenticeship/labor-relief program known as Seed to Seed Farm School. Seed to Seed Farm School is an extension of the educational work John has been doing over the course of his career. John's motivations for starting the Seed to Seed project are a love of teaching, a wish to expand the local agricultural system by supporting beginning farmers, and the incentive to help established farmers through labor cost relief. He lives on his farm with his wife Mindy and his son Josiah.
